For many years, Central Kentucky Fiber Resources has accepted translucent PET strapping materials, which are used in a variety of different shipping products and methods. While we are happy to provide this recycling service to our customers, there have been recent changes in the PET market, with more restrictive rules being put in place.
In order to make sure your business can continue to recycle PET strapping, you need to be aware of these changes.
What is Accepted
Central Kentucky Fiber Resources continues to accept PET strapping as a service to help people recycle as much as they can. New standards for PET strapping require that the materials are clean (non-contaminated), chopped, and packaged in Gaylord boxes. Baled materials have become difficult for many recycling companies to handle in their shredding process, so PET strapping is no longer accepted in baled form.
Transparent strapping that is loose or mixed with other materials will no longer be accepted. Make sure transparent strapping is clean, chopped and packaged in Gaylord boxes. This is important to note as bringing PET strapping in any other way can slow down the acceptance process at the plant.
Opaque strapping can no longer be accepted. It is considered contaminated and problematic for recycling companies by the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers. The un-pigmented, transparent version is considered to be the most versatile for end-use applications.
How We Help
At Central Kentucky Fiber Resources, LLC, we continue to recycle plastic products. In addition to PET strapping, we also help with an array of other post-industrial plastics including dunnage, runners, pellets, and more.
We are always looking at how to increase industrial recycling in our area and are a member of the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers. This allows us to have a better grasp of the challenges that various industries face in the effort to practice environmental stewardship. We are an approved exporter to Asia and continuously strive to recycle as much as possible. We provide materials-recovery analysis and more to help with pre-cycling, categorizing, collecting, and more.
Our goal is to work with companies of all sizes to help them be more effective with recycling efforts. PET strapping is commonly used and we want to offer this service. However, we ask that everyone become aware of the changes as to how the strapping needs to be submitted to us so we are able to recycle it within the PET market. With the help of our business partners, we are able to enhance environmental stewardship programs and reduce the amount of product that goes into the landfills across central Kentucky and beyond.
If you have any questions about what we can or cannot recycle, or if you need need more information on how materials need to be submitted to us, we are happy to answer any questions. Don't hesitate to contact us if you need assistance.
